A couple years away from full production, still LOTS of work to do to scale up production successfully (high enough yield), expensive as all heck, other tech like Na-Ion catching up with a lot of (true) solid-state battery (SSB) benefits. CATL just announced a 2025 release of their Na-Ion cells ahead of their SSB cells that as recently as last Nov they were pushing hard on developing.
We always need to be aware of who is saying things like “revolutionize”. A writer looking for clicks? A researcher looking for additional financing or a company to commercialize her/his work? A company looking to distract from another company’s work?
Cell development comes in small, evolutionary steps, most of which lead nowhere with almost all development work not resulting in commercialization of the tech. There are successes, of course, but they are slow and difficult.
Still, SSB’s can offer some benefits for higher-end EV use and I’m looking forward to them eventually coming market!
